Sold to AS Roma in January, midfielder Gérson had to return to Fluminense on loan as the Italians had run out of space for non-EU players.
However, the youngster still managed to earn an important spot in the team despite the little time he has at Fluminense. The fact is that the midfielder will return to Roma in the middle of the year, which leaves a gap in the position. The board expects to sign a replacement to fill the void, and also for other positions in the squad during the training period that the team will have prior to the opening game in the Brazilian Championship. Fluminense have defined the profiles of the players they’re looking for; they need at least of them to come in and join Fred and Cícero in the mission of leading the youngsters in the team. Diego Souza was bought for this function, but the player asked to return to Sport Recife. There is a hope among the crowd that Dryworld, supplier of the team’s sports equipment, would fund the arrival of a major name, as happened at Atlético Mineiro with Robinho.
No names were discussed openly, but there are some playets in Fluminense’s list. Fans dream of Montillo and Thiago Neves, but none have been confirmed by the board. Despite not being a priority, Fluminense haven’t ruled out signing a defender. Renato Chaves is dissatisfied with the few opportunities and wants to return to Ponte Preta. If the sale goes ahead, the team should seek another name.
