According to reports in France, Paris Saint-Germain will not renew the contract of Brazilian defender Maxwell at the end of the season.
French website Buzz Sport claims that one reason for PSG’s decision would be to free up a spot for the possible arrival of Brazilian forward Neymar from Barcelona. In France, the clubs can have up to four players without European nationality in their squad. According to the website, Neymar is the “top priority” of the club to replace Zlatan Ibrahimović. The Swedish striker’s contract may not be renewed, and he’s been linked with a move to Premier League side Manchester United. Maxwell, 34, has been at PSG since 2012. He came through the youth system of Cruzeiro, and has had spells with major European sides like Ajax, Inter Milan and Barcelona. Catalan newspaper SPORT had reported this week that Neymar will not listen to offers from other clubs this season and is already determined to stay at Barcelona.
