Real Madrid right-back Danilo has vowed to prove himself as a great player at the club. The Brazilian has endured a difficult season and come in for criticism with his performances. He had looked all set to take the number 2 shirt for the Seleção too, but Dani Alves has retained his place ahead of Danilo.

Madrid have a fine tradition of Brazilian full-backs, with the likes of Roberto Carlos, Cicinho and current left-back Marcelo. Danilo has vowed to prove that he will prove himself, having moved from FC Porto last summer.

Ahead of Madrid’s Champions League semi-final tie with Manchester City, Danilo told the AS newspaper, “”I’m always happy, with a smile on my face. Everyone has difficult moments but the way you take them on is what makes you great,” he said.

“I’m working to convince the people that they need me, and I am a soldier for Madridismo. I’m sure I can improve, and when I arrived I said that I wasn’t going to convince everyone in just four games. I’m sure that bit by bit I will justify the fee Real Madrid paid for me.”
