During a press-conference on the afternoon of Monday at Toca da Raposa II, Cruzeiro said goodbye to coach Deivid who left the club after just four months in charge.
Meanwhile, the club’s board works behind the scenes in search of a replacement, and according to the information from Globo Esporte, they already contacted and discarded Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli, who won the Copa América last year with Chile. At the moment, there are four options being considered by Cruzeiro; Jorginho, Ricardo Gomes, Abel Braga and Marcelo Oliveira. The club wants to wait for the Campeonato Carioca final between Vasco and Botafogo before starting conversations with Jorginho and Ricardo Gomes.
Cruzeiro spoke with Jorge Sampaoli, but two obstacles ruled out the signing of the coach who won the Copa América in 2015. Firstly, Sampaoli gets his wages in Euros and the value requested was deemed too high by the Brazilian club. The second reason was that he has proposals from three top clubs in Europe. And, most certainly, his destination will be Italy.
