Barcelona forward Neymar will participate only in the Olympic Games this summer.
Two days after Barcelona officially announced that they’ve reached an agreement with the Brazilian football federation for Neymar to play only the Olympic Games and stay out of the Copa América Centenário, coach Luis Enrique commented on the subject and said the outcome was best for all parties. He said: “It was a consensual decision between all parties. Everyone wants the best for the player, even that he, it’s clear, had a desire to represent his country, which makes sense and is normal. But in the end, all parties reached an agreement, and I think it’s fantastic for everyone. It’s the best for the club, best for the player and the best for the national team.”
CBF wanted Neymar to take part in both competitions this summer, with Dunga and team coordinator Gilmar Rinaldi traveling to Barcelona for face-to-face discussions. However, the Catalans didn’t change their decision, despite the pressure.
