Brazilian football federation have been in talks with Barcelona to release striker Neymar for both the Copa América Centenário and Olympics.
According to Catalan newspaper SPORT, the attacker’s name will be on the list of players who will play the competition in the United States, and should be announced at the federation’s headquarters on May 5. The newspaper reminds that Barcelona’s elimination from the UEFA Champions League opened the way for Neymar to present himself to the national team in advance. The last club game of the season – the final of the King’s Cup – will be held on May 22, allowing Neymar to join the national team the next day, in Los Angeles. Brazil should stay in the city until May 27 to prepare for the tournament, which will be played between 3rd and 26th June.
As mentioned in the report, after the selection of Neymar for the Copa América, Brazil FA will once again initiate talks with Barcelona to release the player for the Olympics. Barcelona have already made it clear that they don’t intend to allow Neymar to play in two summer competitions, and would prefer him in the Olympics, which is the only title missing from Brazil’s trophy cabinet.
