Inter Milan have made it clear that they will not release defender João Miranda for the Olympic Games if the club has to play in the UEFA Champions League qualifying round.
Miranda is happy to represent Brazil in both the Copa América Centenário and the Olympic Games, but if he’s to choose one, he has no doubts about which he’d pick. He told Globo Esporte: “The national team are in a difficult period and I think the Copa América is a chance where we can make a comeback. I would opt for the Copa América to try to change the atmosphere, because with a win things would return to normal.”
Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva has been a regular absentee from the national team, with coach Dunga preferring the likes of David Luiz, Gil and Marquinhos. Miranda praised his compatriot, but stressed that everyone should respect the decisions of the coach. He said: “I think Thiago is a great defender, he’s a defender who deserves to be in the Brazilian national team for the talent he has, but at the same time, it’s the decision of the coach and we have to respect it. When I was out of the Brazilian team for a while, I learned to respect during that time. Each has its function and when one comes to play, you must play well. Sometimes you’re not in the squad for one reason or another, and it has to be respected.”
