Brazilian attacking midfielder Marquinhos Gabriel came to São Paulo in the late afternoon of Friday to undergo medical examinations and sign a four-year contract with Brasileirão champions Corinthians.
The player was accompanied by his wife and manager Rafael Botelho. It was a 26 hour flight from Saudi Arabia, where he was playing for Al Nassr. On landing, the player said that he cannot talk about his transfer because the move wasn’t confirmed. According to Globo Esporte, Marquinhos should be at the Arena Corinthians on Saturday to watch the team’s clash against Red Bull Brasil, for the quarterfinals of the Paulistão. The 25-year-old was on loan at Santos last year, and had a very good campaign. The Vila Belmiro side also made a similar proposal for the player, but Marquinhos opted to accept Corinthians. He did not choose Santos because the best sports project presented was by Corinthians, who are also participating in the Copa Libertadores this season. Corinthians will pay around €2.6 million to Al Nassr, but there’s no confirmation yet on the portion of the economic rights they’re buying.
