Grêmio will not sell defensive midfield player Walace in this transfer window, the club have insisted. The 20 year old has caught the attention of European scouts with a series of assured displays for the Porto Alegre club over the last 12 months.

Inter Milan are said to have offered €10m for Walace recently, which Grêmio rejected. The club say they are intent on keeping him until the domestic season ends in December, especially now that they have confirmed their qualification for the knockout stages of the Copa Libertadores.

Grêmio president Romildo Bolzan Junior said, “We will not sell Walace, this is definitive. We receive proposals, but we want to go far this year in the championships and it is essential for us. It will be at least until the end of the year.”

UOL reports that Inter sent scouts to watch Grêmio’s recent state championship match with Brasil de Pelotas, however, Walace was injured. But he scored a vital goal in the 3-2 win over LDU in the Copa Libertadores on Wednesday evening, where plenty of scouts were said to be watching him again.

“I’m happy to be scoring goals. The football player needs to be confident, and Roger (Grêmio manager) asks us to try to score. Thanks to God, I could,” the young midfielder said.
