Atlético Madrid left-back Filipe Luis does not want to draw city rivals Real in Friday’s Champions League semi-final draw. Atlético defeated Barca 3-2 in a hotly contested quarter-final, whilst Real overturned a 2-0 first leg deficit to defeat Wolfsburg 3-2 on aggregate, thanks to a hat-trick from Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Brazilian has made no bones about the fact that he wants to avoid Real in the semis, “We prefer someone other than Real Madrid. We can not choose, but if we can avoid them all the better, because we know each other a lot and they are a very dangerous team in Europe.”

Luis says Atlético are happy to go through, but understand the work ahead of them, “We have joy yes, but it’s contained. It was a great game, a brutal effort, everyone gave everything he had. But we have not done anything yet, we are in the semi finals, but we want to go further and have a very important match this weekend.

“Like it or not, we have eliminated the best team, certainly the best attack. We knew it was going to be tough to eliminate the best club.” Luis also refused to be drawn on the referee, who did not give Barcelona what looked a clear stoppage time penalty to bring the tie level on aggregate. Luis was critical of the referee after the first leg in the Nou Camp, where Fernando Torres was sent off.

“Today is not the day to talk about the referees, I said what I thought last week. We have to enjoy the victory, which was important. I want to talk about the game we played and we won deservedly. The joy is immense and I am proud to play at Atletico,” he concluded.
