Santos President Modesto Roma Júnior didn’t went to Peru on Tuesday just for pursuing Marlos Moreno of Atlético Nacional.
Aware of the interest from European clubs on the 19-year-old talent, Santos also wants striker Jonathan Copete. Both were on the field for Atlético Nacional against Sporting Cristal in the group stages of the Copa Libertadores. According to Globo Esporte, Santos actually watched the more experienced Jonathan Copete before turning their focus towards Marlos Moreno. However, the good performances of the young Colombian in the Libertadores attracted Santos, and Modesto talked directly with the president of Atlético Nacional, Juan Carlos de la Cuesta. A representative of the Vila Belmiro club was in Colombia recently and heard that Porto and Liverpool are also interested in him. Santos then returned to analyse the signing of 28-year-old Jonathan Copete. As he’s older, the player wouldn’t cost much to Santos and doesn’t arouse the interest of European teams. Copete, who came through Almagro in Argentina, has had spells with Trujillanos, Trujillo, Zamora, Santa Fé and Vélez Sarsfield.
