While maintaining the hope of selling Alexandre Pato to a club in Europe to recover a part of the club-record transfer fee they paid in 2012, Corinthians also admits the possibility of the striker returning to Brazil at the end of his loan spell at Chelsea.
Pato made his debut for the English club last weekend, and scored a goal in Chelsea"s win over Aston Villa. Pato is currently on loan until the end of the season, but Chelsea have an option to purchase the player at the end of his contract. So far, Corinthians president Roberto de Andrade hasn"t been approached by Chelsea officials to discuss Pato"s situation.
Roberto said: “I liked his debut, scored a goal and played well. I rely on contract, and in values, so they have to say yes or no about their option. Let"s wait and see how long Chelsea will take. He has a contract with us and it has to be fulfilled. It"s the same question you [reporters] used to ask when he was at São Paulo. Nothing has changed. If Chelsea or another club does not purchase him, then he returns to Corinthians and will be used."
