In the 4-0 victory of Chelsea against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday, Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato came on after 23 minutes of the first half to make his debut for the Blues, scored a goal and participated in other two.
Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink was pleased with Pato"s performance, and also praised his attitude in training. By scoring on Saturday at Villa Park, Alexandre Pato continued his tradition of scoring on his debut, and also has a 100% record in debut matches. Pato has won all six debut games he"s played in his career [Internacional, AC Milan, Brazil, Corinthians, São Paulo and Chelsea], and has scored in five of those matches. The only debut game where he failed to score was at São Paulo. In 2014, Pato had a goal disallowed on his São Paulo debut, but provided the assist for Osvaldo"s strike in a 1-0 victory.
Hiddink said: “It was good to see him coming in. I could have brought him in earlier but now with his physical condition he can show his quality and that is why he has come in the team relatively late. It was not the most toughest game, you have to take that into consideration, so we will see how he copes against more resistance."
Hiddink added: “He has been suffering, literally, doing extra work with the fitness coach and other coaches and the other players see that and are happy for him so they are relieved to see him score his first goal."
