Rodrigo Lasmar, doctor of the Brazilian national team, explained the controversy involving Marcelo, Real Madrid and Dunga.
Soon after the 2-2 draw against Paraguay in Asunción, Rodrigo Lasmar explained that there was indeed a chance of the left-back acting and that the decision to leave him off the list was taken by Dunga. After Marcelo was off the list for the two World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Paraguay, Real Madrid coach Zidane said that Marcelo was fit to play, and it was Dunga who decided to leave him out. Dunga responded by stating that the doctor could show conversations between the parties to prove that Marcelo could not play.
Rodrigo Lasmar said: “The day before [the call up] I called and I asked the condition to Marcelo and at that time there were two games he missed due to injury. He had a shoulder injury and then the calf. On the day of the conversation he said he was fine, recovering and that he might play next week and would face Roma if all went well."
“At the time of the call up, the fact was, he was away for two games but could perhaps play. Maybe not, but maybe come back and could feel the pain again. I passed this onto Dunga, the situation of the player at that moment. And then he decided to not call him up. It was his option."
