Corinthians have agreed to increase the wages of 18-year-old midfielder Maycon, who’s been the biggest revelation of the team in 2016.
Maycon was earning just over €2,400 per-month, the average salary of the players who rise through the youth categories, but the new value was not disclosed. The contract of the youngster was renewed in January, and is valid until the end of 2019. With the salary increase, the club also adjusted Maycon’s release clause, which is now approximately €25 million for the clubs outside Brazil. Touted as “new Elias” by coach Tite, the young midfielder has made eight appearances for the professional side and scored a goal against Botafogo-SP in the Paulistão. Maycon, who’s been part of the U17 team of Brazil before, tore the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee in March 2014, and missed the rest of the season. In early 2015, Maycon played the prestigious Copinha tournament and scored the goal which gave Corinthians the title, against Botafogo in Ribeirão Preto. This year, Corinthians finished runners-up in the competition, and Maycon caught the attention of Tite, who promoted him into the professional squad.
