São Paulo took the field on Sunday to face rivals Santos without Paulo Henrique Ganso, who has been their main offensive weapon this year.
In the derby at the Vila Belmiro which finished 1-1, Paulo Henrique Ganso served his suspension for taking a third yellow card in the previous round, against Botafogo-SP. The playmaker has participated in half of the 18 goals scored by the team in 2016 so far. Ganso has scored six times this season, and has provided three assists. Therefore, it is not difficult to understand the statements of coach Edgardo Bauza after the derby. He said: “Players like Ganso are difficult to replace. In the field, Daniel played this function. Then came Lucas Fernandes, who is likely to become an important attacking midfielder for the team.”
18-year-old Lucas Fernandes came on in place of Adrián Centurión in the halftime break, making his third appearance of the year, and quite pleased the coach. He added: “Lucas Fernandes is a player with a great future. We are monitoring, demanding, but with some assumptions so that he is the player we think he will be.”
