Brazil midfielder Renato Augusto believes that more of his compatriots will go to the Chinese Superleague in the coming years. Brazilian internationals such as Ricardo Goulart, Diego Tardelli and Gil, as well as emerging star João Teixeira have flocked to the newly monied Chinese league over the last year.

After a standout year with champions Corinthians in the Brasileirão last season, Renato Augusto joined Beijing Guoan in January. Dunga has expressed concern about the travelling time and the standard of play for his squad. But Renato Augusto, speaking prior to World Cup qualifiers against Paraguay and Uruguay, doesn’t see the migration ending any time soon.

“Don’t be surprised if soon we see more Brazil internationals going to China,” he explained. “There was a time when it seemed absurd to call up players who played in Russia or Ukraine. Chinese football is perhaps the fastest growing in the world.

“The trend is that it will keep improving. I was told the standard was very bad but that is not what I have seen. It has been a positive surprise, because I have seen that I will be playing at a high level.”

The midfielder, who also spent time in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen, says that he has a personal fitness coach too, “I worried more about the level of fitness in China. I have a professional at my disposal for that.

“I am not in China to sightsee nor am I there for an easy ride. I am in very good condition physically. My coach is Italian and we all know how they like to train. I’m feeling good and will be at Dunga’s disposal.”
