Everton midfielder Gareth Barry has also denied that Chelsea striker Diego Costa bit him during their 2-0 victory against the Blues on Saturday in the FA Cup quarterfinals.
Although it appeared that Diego Costa bit Barry when the two were involved in an altercation, but the Brazilian born striker had denied it, after the game. Barcelonastriker Luis Suárez was suspended for ten games for a similar incident during his days at Liverpool for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanović, but Diego Costa is expected to avoid a punishment after both Barry and Everton coach Roberto Martínez denied that a bite happened. Barry wrote on social media app Fanzai: “Seen a lot of talk about the incident involving me and Diego Costa in the game last night. For the record, Diego did not bite me.”
Roberto Martínez said: “Gareth Barry said to me it’s nothing to be worried about. He said he’s just disappointed that he collected the second yellow card. Diego Costa has a fighting spirit. I don’t think it was much. I think the sending offs of Diego Costa and Gareth Barry were both right.”
