The board of Corinthians are reportedly very concerned about Alexandre Pato’s lack of playing time at Chelsea, fearing it could damage their chances of obtaining a transfer fee for him before he will be entitled to leave the club on a free transfer.

Pato joined Chelsea on loan at the end of January, but has yet to feature for a single minute for the Blues. They have a maximum of 13 games left to play this season, and a minimum of 10 after their Champions League exit to Paris Saint Germain, leaving Pato with few opportunities to impress potential buyers.

Pato’s deal runs out with Corinthians in January 2017, meaning he can sign a pre-contract agreement with any club except Chelsea in July. Timão were hoping that Pato would at least get enough playing time to impress other European clubs into bidding for him.

Corinthians paid close to £10m for Pato, whose transfer has proved disastrous and the São Paulo club are keen to recoup some of their outlay, but it looks increasingly unlikely, with Chelsea clearly not impressed and with a free transfer looming.

Corinthians tried to convince Pato to extend his contract by a year when he joined Chelsea to help them broker a sale but the player refused, leaving Corinthians very vulnerable to losing him on a free transfer. Pato has falled behind 20 year old Bertrand Traore in the pecking order.
