Following the good phase of Paulo Henrique Ganso this year, São Paulo now have a new weapon in their attempt to qualify from the group stages of the Copa Libertadores.
Just over three years after his arrival, the midfielder finally seems to give evidence that he may indeed be the leader that the team needed. A highlight during the club"s 1-1 draw away to River Plate on Thursday in the second group game, Ganso is more decisive and repeated a scoring sequence that hasn"t happened since 2010. The playmaker, who hadn"t scored for three consecutive matches in his career since 2010, managed to find the net for São Paulo in their last three games, against Mogi Mirim, São Bernardo and River Plate. In just 12 games this season, the 26-year-old has also scored more goals [4] than in 53 matches last year [3]. With one point from two games and sitting third in Group 1 of the Copa Libertadores, São Paulo still have two more home games remaining, but the last round fixture against The Strongest in Bolivia should probably be the one that decides the fate of the team in the competition.
