Palmeiras sack Marcelo Oliveira after defeat to Nacional in the Copa Libertadores
The coach could not resist another defeat and was fired from Palmeiras, just nine months after being appointed.
Marcelo Oliveira leaves the office with 23 wins, 10 draws and 17 defeats in 50 matches. The decision was announced by the club's director of football, Alexandre Mattos, after the 2-1 defeat to Uruguayan side Nacional on Wednesday in the Copa Libertadores. Marcelo Oliveira was not even on the bench for Wednesday's game, as the coach had been sent off in the previous match against Rosario Central. Mattos said: "It was also his will [to leave]. In the last three years, he's the most victorious coach [two Brazilian Championship titles and a Copa do Brasil]. The responsibility is shared with the group of players. The team is not evolving, things are not happening the way Palmeiras needs. Assistant coach Alberto will take over temporarily."
