Fiorentina are trying to sign 19-year-old forward Gabriel Barbosa and 18-year-old midfielder Thiago Maia from Santos but the Brazilian side are not willing to start negotiations.
According to the information from Globo Esporte, the European club sent two representatives in January but the negotiations haven’t progressed. And now, two months later, they have returned to discuss the subject with Santos after both were called up by Dunga to Brazil’s Olympic squad. Currently fourth in Serie A, Fiorentina want to reach an agreement for the Vila Belmiro boys before the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro this year. The response of Santos was that they will sell Gabigol and Maia, only if Fiorentina are willing to trigger the players’ release clause, which is €50 million. Both have a contract until 2019 with Santos. The club holds 40% of the economic rights of the attacker and 60% of the midfielder. Two most talented players at Santos, the duo have also received enquiries from teams like PSG and Juventus.
