Brazilian midfielder Elano has signed a contract renewal with Santos until the end of December this year.
Elano has decided to postpone his retirement which was initially supposed to happen after the Campeonato Paulista. Elano should also hinder the plans of another idol of the club, former left-back Léo who had ended his career over an year ago. The two players had agreed a farewell game together towards the middle of this year but Léo will now have to wait a few more months or make a farewell party alone. The idea was a friendly between Santos and Portuguese side Benfica where Léo played for nearly five seasons.
Santos coach Dorival Júnior gave the approval for the renewal of Elano until December, as he believes the experience of the midfielder will be important for younger players. In addition, the club lost Marquinhos Gabriel and Geuvânio, and finds it difficult to replace them.
