In the desert of Atacama in Chile, Corinthians defeated [0-1] Cobresal late on Wednesday in their opening game of the 2016 Copa Libertadores.
Corinthians have had a good start in the state league this year despite losing half of their first-team players at the end of the Brazilian Championship. And even without a great performance on Wednesday, Corinthians managed to register their first 3 points in the continental competition, following an own-goal from Cobresal defender Escalona in second half injury time. Despite the good result by the Brazilians, the match wasn"t the best as two clubs failed to create much opportunities to score, and the goalkeepers were hardly called into action. Cerro Porteño and Santa Fe drew on Tuesday, so Corinthians are Group-8 leaders with 3 points. The next match of Tite"s men in the Libertadores is scheduled for March 2, at the Corinthians Arena against Santa Fe.
