Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato will take at least one more week to make his debut for new club Chelsea.
Pato has been training to regain match fitness and Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink revealed during his press conference that the player is slowly getting back to shape. He hasn"t yet received the green light to take the field, but the expectation is that the Brazilian is ready to wear the shirt of Chelsea for the first time against Manchester City on 21 February. Hiddink said: “Pato is not available for tomorrow"s game [Newcastle], but the idea is that he can be ready for the following weekend. He"s at the end of the second week of his pre-season and he"s doing well.  He came off holiday and you can see the difference in the players who are in daily training and those just off holiday. But after 10 days he"s progressing."
He added: “We will see how he goes into the next tough programme, planned for next week. The skill is something nature gives. You can improve that, but the level of fitness and frequent actions of speed, for instance… that needs training sessions."
