Figueirense’s 20-year-old striker Clayton, one of the most in demand player from the Brazilian Championship, is close to being announced by Atlético Mineiro. According to the information from Globo Esporte, Clayton’s manager Jorge Machado is the one responsible for negotiations between Figueirense and Atlético. Figueirense has 15% of the economic rights of the forward, while 30% is owned by Jorge Machado. 20% is with another agent, and the rest in the hands of investors. The board of Atlético Mineiro tries to acquire the share belonging to the club from Florianópolis. In an interview with Notícias do Dia, Clayton confirmed that Jorge Machado is taking care of the negotiations and the fact that he can play in this year’s Libertadores weighs a lot in his decision. Besides Robinho, Atlético have already signed defender Erazo, midfielder Juan Cazares and attacker Hyuri in 2016.
He is the top-scorer of the Campeonato Catarienense 2016 with four goals in three matches. Clayton, whose contract with Figueirense runs out at the end of 2017, has already attracted interest from other clubs in Brazil, like Cruzeiro, Corinthians, Grêmio and Internacional. The youngster was the Figueirense’s major highlight from last season and represented Brazil’s U23 team in the Pan American Games in Toronto in 2015.
