Brazilian midfielder Lucas Silva has released an official statement to respond to the media reports doing rounds recently about his situation at Marseille.
L’Équipe reported at the start of the week that the 22-year-old was asked to get out of the Marseille team-bus before their trip for the game against Montpellier, with his teammates looking stunned. They added that Marseille president Vincent Labrune took the action after being unhappy with the attitude of the player to reject a chance to go to Anderlecht on transfer deadline day. But Lucas’ statement on Wednesday read: “On the last day of the transfer window, I was on the bus to travel with the team and, due to ongoing negotiations with European clubs, I was then told by OM to stay at Marseille because I might have to travel anytime as a result of these negotiations. I’ve never been kicked out of the bus as some media reports suggested. After my agent assured that all my interests would be preserved, I was then told about the offers. The decision to stay at OM was based on my personal belief that commitments must be honoured. Besides, I’m a player who always grew in front of major challenges and overcoming them many times during my career.”
