During Atlético Mineiro’s 2-0 win over Caldense on Wednesday night, forward Hyuri collapsed with goalkeeper Gilson in what was the last action of the match.
The player was unconscious for a few moments and was quickly attended by the medical staff of Atlético Mineiro. Hyuri received a strong blow to his neck from Gilson and was lying on the pitch. After being checked by Atlético Mineiro doctor Otaviano Oliveira, the player was stretchered off with a neck brace to be taken out of the Independência stadium in an ambulance, towards a hospital in the south-central area of Belo Horizonte for a more detailed treatment. According to the press office of the club, a CT scan of the skull and spine was performed. Atletico Mineiro coach Diego Aguirre expressed his concern, but said that he doesn’t have any information about the player’s situation. According to what was passed on to the journalists on the pitch, Hyuri complained of neck pain, but was conscious when taken to hospital.
