Ex Arsenal midfielder and Brazilian World Cup winner Gilberto Silva has not ruled out coaching as the next avenue in his career and says that he would be delighted if an approach were made by his old club. Gilberto retired from playing late last year after a two year battle with a knee injury.

Shortly after obtaining the injury, he was invited to train with Arsenal for a few days during a visit to London and Gilberto later revealed that Arsene Wenger had offered to help him make his first steps into coaching.

The Arsenal ‘Invincible’ turned down the offer at the time as he had not given up on his playing career yet. But having retired, Gilberto says it’s an avenue he is now exploring, “I will do my badges and I want to learn more and more about football, not just on the field but off it.

“I haven’t spoken to Arsene or someone at the club about working together but if something happens of course my feelings for the club mean I would think carefully in a very good way.”

Gilberto’s ex midfield partner Patrick Vieira has recently taken his first foray into management, having taken the reigns at New York FC and Gilberto is keen to see his old teammate rejoin forces with Arsenal as a coach one day, “It’s quite hard to say if it was wrong or not. When he left Arsenal he went to Juventus then Milan and Manchester City. I don’t know what went wrong for him to be at Manchester City and not Arsenal.

“He’s now starting his career as coach somewhere else to find good experience but there’s a possibility he comes back to Arsenal. He was a massive story at the club and everyone likes him so this could be something for the future. If he was to come back and work with Arsene and his staff I would be very happy to see that happen.”
