Monaco were eliminated in the second round of the French Cup on Tuesday night.
With Brazilian players Fabinho, Wallace and Jemerson starting, Monaco lost 2-1 to Sochaux, following goals from Florian Martin and Hadi Sacko. Monaco had equalized through Tiemoué Bakayoko in the first-half after Martin had given Sochaux the lead. The game saw the debut of 23-year-old defender Jemerson, who was bought from Atlético Mineiro last month. Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim introduced Brazilian striker Vágner Love in place of Almamy Touré 15 minutes into the second half, but wasn’t successful with the change. The team that went through to the next round contests the second division in the country and is currently placed 19th in the competition. With the elimination from the French Cup, Monaco will now turn their focus back to the French Championship as they take on Saint-Étienne on Sunday. Monaco are 2nd in the Ligue 1 table, but 24 points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
