Oscar’s agent Giuliano Bertolucci claims that Chinese club Jiangsu Suning made an offer to Chelsea for Brazilian midfielder Oscar during the January transfer window. The Chinese Superleague has flexed its financial muscle during January, snapping up established talent such as Ramires and Alex Teixeira, who himself joined Jiangsu this week.

Bertolucci claims that the Chinese club, managed by Dan Petrescu, offered a sum in the region of €75m for the Chelsea playmaker, though the precise figures are not confirmed. However, both Oscar, who netted a hat trick in Chelsea’s 5-1 win over MK Dons at the weekend, and Chelsea flatly rejected the offer.

Brazilian players such as Diego Tardelli, Ricardo Goulart, Jádson, Gil and Renato Augusto have all fled Brazil for the riches on offer in China recently. But the league seems to be making a power play for even more established players, with Teixeira and Ramires joining and offers made for the likes of Alexandre Pato and Lucas Lima.

The Chinese transfer window ends on 25 February, so expect to see a few more eye raising bids for established players from China in the next few weeks.
