Santos forward Gabriel Barbosa was challenged on Twitter to dance MC Bin Laden’s famous song “Tá Tranquilo, Tá Favorável” if he scores against Ponte Preta in the second game of the 2016 Paulistão on Wednesday.
The Vila Belmiro boy scored, and fulfilled his promise as he ran towards the crowd and made the famous “Ronaldinho gesture” as in the song. The joy on the field and on social networks is a reflection of how the 19-year-old has started this year. A major highlight at the club since 2014, Gabigol has evolved every year, and the current season could be even better for the teenager. Santos have played two official games so far this year, and have scored three goals, with two of those coming from Gabigol who also provided the assist for the other. It’s not just the numbers that would’ve pleased the coach Dorival Júnior, as Gabigol is, more than ever, versatile. In the 2-0 win over Ponte Preta, for example, he floated across the pitch and was not just fixed on one side. In the Paulistão opener against São Bernardo, Gabigol scored the equalizer, and was one of the most participatory player of Santos. After the game with Ponte Preta, Gabigol said that the most important is what they achieve collectively, and not individually.
Just like 2014, Gabigol played 56 matches for Santos last year and scored 21 goals. He was the tournament top-scorer in Copa do Brasil for two years in a row, something achieved by just 2 players in history, Romário and Gérson.
