Brazilian striker Leandro Damião, who played for Cruzeiro on loan from Santos last year, has signed a contract with Spanish club Real Betis until June.
Real Betis announced the signing of the 26-year-old on Thursday, and the player posed for pictures alongside club officials. Reports from Spain at the start of the week claimed that Betis had given up on signing the Brazilian striker, after a move would have been vetoed by the club’s board, despite Damião arriving in Spain to sign the contract and carry out medical tests. After a legal battle, Santos and Leandro Damião reached an agreement at the end of last week, and the Brazilian side issued an official statement that he’s been released to sign for Betis. Ives Grandra Martins Filho, vice-president of the Superior Labour Court, had also informed the Spanish club that they were free to sign Damião.
Betis are currently 14th in the La Liga table with 22 points, and just 2 points separate them from Rayo Vallecano, first team in the relegation zone.
