Bordeaux’s coach Willy Sagnol said he consulted Palmeiras midfielder Zé Roberto before signing Malcom from Corinthians.
Teenage striker Malcolm, formerly of Corinthians where he won the 2015 Brazilian Championship, was presented on Monday at his new club Bordeaux. The player spoke about his eagerness to play in the French team. He said: “I feel in great shape, and I am eager to start training and play. Many Brazilian players have had their growth here. Bordeaux is a great club.”
During the interview, Willy Sagnol, coach of the French side, revealed his conversation with former Brazilian international and current Palmeiras midfielder Zé Roberto, with whom he played together at Bayern Munich. He said: “We have purchased 100% of the rights of Malcom, and we have no doubts about this signing. I contacted Ze Roberto, who made compliments.”
Malcom was the sixth member from Corinthians’ starting XI to leave in January after they won the Brasileirão title last season. Renato Augusto, Jádson, Ralf and Gil was sold to China, while attackers Vágner Love and Malcom went to France.
