One of the best talents of the youth system at Santos, midfielder Caio Henrique has left the Vila Belmiro club without playing a single game for the professional team.
The player, who had a contract at Santos until July this year, has reached a deal with Atlético Madrid. According to UOL Esporte, the 18-year-old was close to leaving Santos in 2015, but the negotiations with Valencia, also from Spain, did not materialize. It’s believed that Jorge Mendes and Deco were responsible for taking the teenager to Atlético Madrid. Caio Henrique, who played in the last Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior, said goodbye to the club he joined aged 10, through social network. He said: “It’s a different and difficult moment for me. Today I want to thank Santos FC and say goodbye to this institution that opened the doors for me. I came here very young, devoted eight years of my life and I thank God for giving me the privilege of wearing the shirt of Santos.”
Santos did not disclose how much they profited from selling the player, but have confirmed that they’ll keep 5% rights of Caio in a future negotiation.
