The president of Corinthians, Roberto de Andrade, has spoke for the first time about Alexandre Pato"s loan move to Chelsea.
After their victory against XV de Piracicaba in the Campeonato Paulista on Sunday, Roberto de Andrade denied that there is a clause in Pato"s contract that prevents the player from signing with teams from England at the end of his loan spell. Pato"s contract expires on December 31, so he can sign a pre-contract with any team, except Chelsea, from the middle of 2016, to go for free in January 2017. According to Globo Esporte, to buy the player permanently at the end of the loan period, Chelsea will have to shell out €12 million in June. Roberto said: “In English football he can [sign]. What he cannot do is to sign with Chelsea. You cannot prohibit anyone from doing their work. But I"m pretty sure he will stay at Chelsea."
Before releasing Pato on loan, Roberto de Andrade tried to convince him to extend his contract with Corinthians, but the 26-year-old refused to do so.
