Shakhtar CEO Sergei Palkin has insisted that Alex Teixeira will not be allowed to join Liverpool during the January transfer window. Liverpool have been in dialogue with the Ukrainian club for much of the month and have already had two bids for the player, thought to be of £24m and £28m, rejected.

Speaking to Ukrainian radio, Palkin insists that a move will now not happen and that Donetsk will keep hold of their prize asset until the summer, “We rejected the offers. €32m is the last value that was offered. I do not want to sell Alex today. We will sell him only at the end of the season. We need have some good results in the Europa League and the Ukrainian Championship.”

The player himself has made it very clear that he wants to join the Premier League club, having already granted an interview with a Liverpool fansite where he said, “It would be an honour to wear the Liverpool shirt.” With 25 goals in 26 games this season, Teixeira is one of the most sought after attackers in Europe.

It’s likely that Shakhtar are just grandstanding to make Liverpool raise their offer, Palkin apparently hinted that they might be willing to accept an offer in the region of £40m. It’s long been touted that their actual asking price is £35m and Palkin’s interview is probably just a piece of brinkmanship.
