Brazilian defender Jemerson packed his bags and travelled to France on Thursday to undergo medical examinations at Monaco, and then sign his contract.
Just before the trip, the player revealed that it was a difficult decision to leave Atlético Mineiro, but what weighed was the chance of realizing a dream to play in Europe. Following Nicolás Otamendi’s move to Valencia, Jemerson adapted to the professional side with ease and became a regular at the club. The 23-year-old, who was also a big fan favourite, was named in Brasileirão’s best XI at the end of last season. He said: “I always dreamed, one always dreams of playing in Europe. I am realizing this dream, and I hope it’s a wonderful dream. I hope I can play the same role I played at Atlético. This is what I really wanted, to play in a big team in Europe having great players. To still learn more, and experience a new culture. I think it will be very nice for me.”
He added: “The team is good. The team is experienced and I hope they have a good performance in the Mineiro Championship, in Libertadores, in the Brasileirão, and in all competitions they play. I have a lot of thanks to Atlético, the players, staff, board, fans, everyone. Thank you for the affection, for how you’ve always treated me. I hope to return to Atlético one day.”
