The prospective transfer of Alex Teixeira from Shakhtar Donetsk to Liverpool rumbles on, with the Brazilian attacking midfielder having made it quite clear to the Ukrainian champions that he wants to leave. Shakhtar are receptive to the idea of selling, but only at the right price.

Donetsk have made the development and sale of unpolished Brazilian talents a cottage industry in recent years, with the likes of Fernandingo, Luiz Adriano, Douglas Costa and Willian having all spent significant periods of time with the Ukrainian club. In fact, Teixeira himself was signed from Vasco da Gama at the same time that Donetsk snared Douglas Costa.

With 25 goals in 26 games for Shakhtar this season, Teixeira has appeared on the radar of top European clubs. Chelsea were said to be very interested, but now appear to have turned attention to his compatriot Alexandre Pato, clearing the way for Liverpool. However, reports over the last 24 hours suggest that the two clubs are still some way apart in their valuation of the player.

Liverpool are understood to have bid in the region of £25m for Teixeira, with Shakhtar holding out for something closer to £35m. Teixeira is training in isolation with Donetsk preparing for the second half of their season in Florida, with a hamstring complaint given as the official reason. If Liverpool seal the signing, it will give a distinctly Brazilian flavour to their attack, with Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho already pivotal members of the side, alongside Brazilian volante Lucas Leiva.
