Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is more than happy to play Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino as a striker. Klopp does not seem convinced by more orthodox option Christian Benteke and has played Firmino as a false 9 in recent weeks, with pleasing results.

Firmino, who has played the role for his country, scored twice against Arsenal at Anfield a fortnight ago and twice again at Carrow Road on Saturday lunchtime. Klopp thinks the definition of "striker2 is very broad in this day and age and that Firmino more than fits the billing.

"After Manchester United, everybody asked me ‘What about Firmino, [do] you need a real target striker?’ But he scored two against Arsenal and he scored two here.

"I think it’s a wide spectrum. Roberto is a striker. He’s a very offensive player. A lot of strikers are 1.60 metres or 1.70 metres-something. Leo Messi, what is he?" the German coach said to Liverpool’s official website.

"Firmino can play and score goals and he is, for us, a good option to play with. He is flexible and in brilliant shape. Having the option with Christian [Benteke], that’s good. We have too many games where I can say ‘This or this is No.1’. We always have to make decisions."
