Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato, who spent the last two seasons on loan at São Paulo, is closing in on a move to Premier League giants Chelsea.
According to the report from Daily Mail, Chelsea are finalizing the last few details to sign the 26-year-old from the Brasileirão champions. Contrary to previous reports which claimed that Pato would be signing a three year deal, the publication reckons the transfer would be on loan with the possibility to make it permanent after this loan period. The report, released on Sunday evening, highlights the desire of the player to play in English football and Chelsea’s strong intention to improve their offensive sector, especially with the UEFA Champions League in mind. Alexandre Pato played last two season on loan at São Paulo, but returned to Corinthians, with whom he has a contract until the end of this year.
Corinthians are desperate to cash in on Pato and had accepted to sell the player to Chinese second division side Tianjin Songjiang. But Pato had other ideas and rejected a move to China at this point of his career, despite being offered an astronomical salary.
