Corinthians board have received a lot of criticism on social networks for involving young midfielder Marciel in exchange for Willians from Cruzeiro.
Despite loaning out of one of the most promising players from Timão"s youth system, football manager Edu Gaspar believes that the move may be beneficial to all parties. The club"s technical commission believes that Marciel would have little chances to play this season, mainly because he plays in a similar role to Elias who"s staying at the club now, despite an offer from China. Competition for the position is big, with Bruno Henrique and Cristian also available. Corinthians received some enquiries for Marciel at the end of the year, but negotiations did not progress because he had played very little. With the 20-year-old expected to play more regularly at Cruzeiro, they believe that this loan move would also attract more interested clubs. Edu said: “I don"t know if it would be ideal for Marciel to assume a role in the team. Maybe it"s time for players with a bit of baggage. He will have the opportunity to play in a club [Cruzeiro] with enough structure. And Willians can be very useful."
