The Times newspaper in London has claimed that Liverpool are entering the bidding for Shakhtar Donetsk’s highly rated attacking midfielder Alex Teixeira. The Brazilian has been linked heavily with a move to Chelsea, though the London club seem to have set their sights on Alexandre Pato now, and Jurgen Klopp will seize the advantage according to the paper.

The Times claims that the Reds lodged a bid of £24m on Thursday. The club’s CEO Ian Ayre apparently flew to Florida, where Shakhtar are taking part in the Florida Cup ahead of the second half of the Ukrainian season, to discuss the deal. However, the fee appears to be a sticking point, with Donetsk asking for more than £30m.

Teixeira, who has scored 25 goals in 26 games so far this season, alerting Europe’s biggest clubs. Teixeira has openly declared his intention to move to another European club and Shakhtar are prepared to do business, but only at the right price. Teixeira is another in the stable of Brazilian players that have developed with Donetsk, alongside the likes of Fernandinho, Willian and Douglas Costa.
