As the transfer of Alexandre Pato to Chelsea draws closer, his first club Internacional will be licking their lips and expecting a miniature windfall from the transfer. Pato was reared in O Colorado’s academy, where he spent seven years with the Porto Alegre club before leaving for A.C. Milan as a teenager.

If reports over Pato’s fee are true, Inter can expect to net R£1.3m (around £220k) from the deal that Corinthians cut with Chelsea. Likewise, A.C. Milan can expect some of the proceeds of this transfer. According to FIFA’s solidarity payments mechanism, they are entitled to 2.7% of the fee as well, since they contributed to the development of the player between the ages of 18 and 23. Therefore, Milan could expect around a quarter of a million pound share.

Pato looks set to sign a 3 year contract at Chelsea. His transfer is being handled by Iranian agent Kia Joorobchian, who also represents David Luiz, Ramires and Oscar and helped to broker the sale of Chelsea to Roman Abramvich in 2003.
