2015 Brasileirão champions Corinthians continue their pursuit of signing a creative midfielder following the exit of Jádson and Renato Augusto to Chinese football.
According to the information from Globo Esporte, Corinthians are back in for Marquinhos Gabriel and contacts with Al Nassr were intensified again in recent days after failing to close a deal for Sebástian Blanco of San Lorenzo. Corinthians already tried to sign Marquinhos Gabriel when the league was in progress last year, as he had great performances for Santos during his loan spell there. One of Santos’ priorities ahead of the 2016 season was to keep him in the squad, but couldn’t reach an agreement with Al Nassr.
Corinthians were ready to pay the €3.6 million fee that Al Nassr were demanding for the player, but only to be paid in instalments. This wasn’t accepted by Al Nassr and Marquinhos Gabriel returned to Saudi. But now, Corinthians have returned to discuss values with the Middle East club, as they’re close to selling defender Gil to Shandong Luneng for €10m. Corinthians were showing an interest in signing midfielder Sebástian Blanco, but San Lorenzo only accepted to sell 100% of his economic rights. The Brazilian club wanted to buy just 50% of rights, and a deal was difficult.
