Argentine striker Jonathan Calleri is very close to being confirmed as the fourth signing of São Paulo for the 2016 season.
As reported by Globo Esporte, the Morumbi team has won the battle with Atlético Mineiro, and reached an agreement with the group of investors that acquired the rights of Calleri for approximately €11 million. Calleri was the main highlight of Boca Juniors in 2015, but had his rights transferred to a group of investors, in order to be passed on to Inter Milan. However, the Italian side are without a spot for a non-EU player now, and Calleri will be loaned out to São Paulo until the middle of the year. São Paulo’s Argentine coach Edgardo Bauza talked with Calleri on two occasions and played an important role in signing the player. Moreover, at Morumbi, Calleri will play alongside his friend and compatriot Ricardo Centurión.
