Corinthians defender Gil has confirmed that negotiations for his sale will continue, despite the club rejecting a proposal from Chinese side Shandong Luneng, coached by Mano Menezes.
Earlier, the deputy director of football, Eduardo Ferreira, said that the club did not accept the value proposed by Shandong, as the Chinese club did not want to meet the player’s €10 million release-clause. Timão would be entitled to 90% of the total transfer fee, while French team Valenciennes, former club of Gil, holds the other 10%. Gil was quoted in Globo Esporte: “From what my agent said, negotiations continues. I hope it’s something good all parties; after all Corinthians are the club that invested in me. If you speak only of money, then it loses some grace, because they will say that player is a mercenary, he is this and he is that… You need to know what the player has done for the club, for example Renato Augusto, who walked out through the front door. In football, things are dynamic, haven’t talked about the money part, yet. But my agent is negotiating. I don’t know what can happen tomorrow. I’m focused on the trip, and finishing the preseason.”
