The possibility of Argentine striker Jonathan Calleri joining Atlético Mineiro is gathering pace quickly.
According to the report from UOL Esporte, the youngster has already agreed terms with Atlético, but the completion of a deal depends on Boca Juniors. The 22-year-old will be purchased by an investment group and should then be transferred to Atlético Mineiro for ateast six months. The arrival of Calleri would be similar to the deal that took defender Nicolás Otamendi to the club in 2014 when Valencia had no space for a non-EU player. Boca and Calleri had already reached a deal with Inter Milan, but the Italian side don’t have a non-EU spot for the player. The expectation is that, Calleri would play in Brazil for six months and take part in the club’s Copa Libertadores campaign, before going to Europe in the summer.
Calleri was released from the club’s camp in Cardales on Monday for talks over his future, but returned to train on Tuesday. He trained along with the reserves, which is a sign that the player is indeed heading out. Atlético Mineiro already have two Argentine players in their squad, Jesús Dátolo and Lucas Pratto.
