Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp today poured cold water on reports that his club had agreed a £15m transfer fee with Corinthians for Alexandre Pato. The São Paulo club are desperate to offload the 26 year old Pato and have practically been auctioning him to European clubs to no avail for the last 18 months.

Rumours began to intensify that Liverpool were going to be the team to bite, but at his pre Arsenal press conference today, Klopp hinted broadly that the reports were mere mischief making from Pato’s representatives. “I advise that you privately not to follow the path of Pato too much,” he cryptically told the press when pressed on the stories.

Corinthians have constantly linked Pato’s name to English and European clubs over the last 18 months in an attempt to sell him off after a pretty disastrous time at Timão. His contract runs out next January and the club are desperate to get back some of their significant outlay.

Pato fell out with Corinthians boss Tite in 2013 over his work ethic and spent two seasons on loan at city rivals São Paulo, where he fared slightly better, but remains dogged by inconsistency. He is training with Corinthians again as they prepare to defend their Brasileirão Paulo, where he fared slightly better, but remains dogged by inconsistency.

He is training with Corinthians again as they prepare to defend their Brasileirão crown, but they have made it clear to the point of haranguing that they intend to sell for the right money. Pato, who was moved to a left wing position whilst at São Paulo, does not appear to be a good match for Klopp.

The German famously prizes a high intensity pressing game and Alexandre Pato is not exactly renowned for his work ethic on or off the pitch. He fell foul of Tite in 2013 when he reportedly skipped a team dressing down after a derby defeat to go and see Beyonce in concert in Rio.
