German side Schalke seems to have ended their pursuit of signing Corinthians midfielder Renato Augusto.
According to German newspaper BILD, the wage demands of Renato Augusto, who was named the best player of the 2015 Brazilian Championship, was considered too high, and Schalke have ended the negotiations with Corinthians. Globo Esporte had reported that the release clause of the midfielder is €7 million, but the Germans were willing to spend €8m and force the Brazilian side to sell him. Schalke director Horst Heldt said: “The transfer is ruled out. Wage demands were not met.”
Renato Augusto has ties with Corinthians until the end of 2016, and is free to sign a pre-contract with any other team starting from July. The club, who owns 50% of his economic rights, haven’t reached an agreement with the player over a renewal. Besides Schalke, he was also wanted by Chinese Super League side Beijing Guoan.
